University Safety Office

As the University Safety Office we aim to deliver a comprehensive proactive quality Safety Service to the University as a whole, including raising awareness and engendering appropriate behaviours and attitudes to occupational health and safety. These provisions cover advice, training, policy, auditing, monitoring, permissioning and investigation for staff, students, contractors and visitors to the University. The USO is also promoting best practice within the University
Note:
The University Safety Office is administratively a part of the Human Resources Directorate along with the Occupational Health Service and the Staff Development Unit.

USO Training Provision

The USO has numerous courses on offer - mostly free of charge to staff and students at the University (some are also available to people from other organisations. NEW DOCUMENTATION
LABORATORY CHECKLISTS
Please view the new health and safety checklists for laboratories now available on the USO website. Please view Safety Management and then Audit and Inspections for access.

NEW FORMS
The USO has now generated new forms for pathogen and toxin registration in the biosafety section. These forms are now simpler and clearer and will facilitate autogeneration of a pathogens register.
In addition to this the carcinogens registration and carcinogen users forms in the hazardous substances section have had a simliar upgrade.
